Collection: Growing Environment & Measuring Tools
Growing environment and measuring tools
Temperature, humidity, water quality, light and soil moisture are the variables that separate guesswork from informed growing — for orchids and for any potted plant, seedling or cutting. A growing space that feels comfortable to a person can be running well outside what a plant will tolerate, and problems that look like disease or neglect are often just an unmeasured environmental variable drifting unnoticed.
This collection covers the instruments that remove the guesswork: temperature and humidity monitoring for the growing space itself, and pH, TDS/EC, soil moisture and light meters for dialling in conditions at the pot level — particularly important around deflasking, seedling trays and humidity domes, where small plants have far less tolerance for drift than established ones. None of these tools are orchid-specific; they're useful to any grower working with sensitive young plants.
-
Max/Min thermometer — records highest and lowest temperature reached since last reset
-
Analog hygrometer — continuous humidity reading, no batteries required
-
Digital HTC-2 with external probe — simultaneous indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity readings
-
pH meter — for checking feed and water pH at the root zone
-
Soil moisture meter — no-battery probe for potted plants and seedling trays
-
TDS&EC water quality tester — checks dissolved solids and conductivity before you feed
-
Digital light meter — actual Lux readings for positioning trays, domes and shaded benches
-
Handheld magnifier — for close inspection of seedling roots, new growth and early pest activity
